Understanding Company Registration
What the CIPC registration process involves, what information you need, and what to expect afterwards.

Who registers a company
Company registration in South Africa is administered by the CIPC. A registration creates a separate legal entity, which is why most businesses that want to trade formally, open a business bank account or respond to supplier opportunities register a company.
Information usually required
- Identity documentation for directors and shareholders
- Proposed company names, in order of preference
- The registered address and contact details
- Details of the share structure, where applicable
Common delays
Most delays come from incorrect identity details, name choices that do not meet the requirements, or missing supporting documents. Checking these before submission saves time.
After registration
Registration is the beginning, not the end. The company still needs tax registration, financial records and, depending on the business, VAT and UIF registration. Annual returns to the CIPC also become an ongoing obligation.
How we assist
We guide you through the information required, assist with the registration submission and hand over the documents you will need for the next steps. The CIPC makes the final determination on any registration.
