Understanding SARS Tax Compliance
What tax compliance status means in practice, and why it matters before you apply for finance or tenders.

What compliance status reflects
A tax compliance status reflects your standing with SARS at a point in time. It is commonly requested when a business applies for finance, registers as a supplier, or responds to a tender.
Why applications get held up
Outstanding returns, unresolved correspondence, incorrect registered details or unpaid balances can all affect the outcome. These are usually administrative items rather than serious problems, but they must be identified and addressed.
What you can do
- Confirm the registered details SARS holds for you
- Check whether any returns are outstanding
- Keep correspondence and reference numbers together
- Respond to SARS requests within the stated timeframes
What we can and cannot do
We assist with the administrative work: identifying what may be outstanding, organising documentation and guiding the process. SARS determines your compliance status and issues any resulting confirmation or PIN. We cannot guarantee approval or timelines.
Start before you need it
Compliance requests usually arrive with a deadline attached to a tender or finance application. Checking your position early avoids losing an opportunity over an administrative item.
